Women’s Golf in 8th after Rd. 1 of Callaway Women’s Collegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's golf team opened the spring season with a 342 in the first round of the Callaway Women's Collegiate on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks are in eighth entering Sunday's final round. Washington and Lee University leads the field at 313 and Dalton State is second at 317. Eleven strokes separate third-place Milligan College (331) and Huntingdon.

"Today was a tough day for the girls. It is apparent we are still knocking the rust off," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "This will be a wake-up call for the girls. I have complete confidence in our lineup and we expect a better performance on Sunday."

Dalton State' s Erika Wardzinzki turned in Saturday's low round with a 2-over-par 73. Huntingdon sophomore LeeAnn Cahoon is six strokes off the lead and in ninth with a 79.

Sophomore Courtney Harville shot 85, freshman Kelsey Spivey shot 88 and sophomore Savannah Humber and freshman Lindsey Huff each shot 90.

"This was not our best outing, but despite the wet conditions, the girls made a great effort to play well," Huntingdon assistant coach Ashley Aguilera said. "I feel like we worked out some kinks today and we are ready for Sunday."

Playing as individuals, junior Shay Roberson shot 94, junior Jessie Culey shot 96 and freshman Mackenzie Chapman shot 100.
