Huntingdon women finish 6th in O'Brien National

GRANGER, Ind. – The Huntingdon women's golf team followed up an opening round 320 with another 320 on Monday in the final round of the O'Brien National Invitational at Knollwood Country Club.

Despite the consistent play, the Lady Hawks dropped from tied for third after the first round to sixth in the final standings in the 10-team field.

All five teams that finished in front of Huntingdon finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Tournament last season. Four of the five teams were top-10 teams at the NCAA Tournament.

Wittenberg, the national runner-up last season, led the field on Sunday and Monday. The Tigers shot 292 in the opening round and 299 in the final round to finish with a 591.

George Fox University (6th last season) was second on Monday at 616, followed by the University of Texas Tyler (4th last season) at 632. DePauw (8th last season) and Washington and Lee (14th last season) tied for fourth in the O'Brien National at 633.

Wittenberg's Jane Hopkinson-Wood fired a 4-under-par 68 on Monday and was the tournament medalist with a 3-under 141.

Junior Savannah Humber shot 78 in the final round and tied for 14th to lead Huntingdon with a 157. Junior LeeAnn Cahoon was a shot back at 158 and sophomore Kelsey Spivey shot 78 on Monday and finished with a 162.

Freshman Hallie Rice shot 164 and junior Courtney Harville shot 168. Playing as an individual, freshman Katelyn Gilmore shot 166.

Huntingdon will play in the DePauw Small College Classic on Saturday.
