Rice places 3rd, Lady Hawks finish 4th at DePauw Classic

CLAYTON, Ind. – Huntingdon freshman Hallie Rice wrapped up the best two rounds of her young collegiate career on Sunday to finish one stroke off the lead in the DePauw Small College Classic.

After shooting a 76 on Saturday, Rice followed up with a 4-over-par 75 in the final round at Deer Creek Golf Club on Sunday. In just her second collegiate tournament, Rice finished third with a 36-hole total of 151.

Wittenberg's Mary Hubbard and Sewanee's Emily Javadi tied for first at 150. Hubbard won by tiebreaker.

The 151 is the fifth best two-round total in Lady Hawks' history. Only junior LeeAnn Cahoon and former Lady Hawk Saem Hur have turned in a better 36-hole total for the program. Hur holds the record of 148. Cahoon has shot 149 in two tournaments and 150 in one tournament.

Rice is just the sixth Lady Hawk to shoot 75 or better in a round. Cahoon set the Lady Hawks' single-round record last season with a 72.

As a team, Huntingdon finished fourth with a two-round 641. The Lady Hawks shot 320 in the first round and 321 in the second round.

Wittenberg, the Division III national runner-up last season, won the tournament with a 622. DePauw University was second at 629 and Washington-St. Louis was third at 636. DePauw finished eighth in the NCAA Tournament last season and Washington-St. Louis was third in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Behind Rice, Cahoon finished 11th with a 158 and sophomore Kelsey Spivey tied for 18th at 162. Junior Savannah Humber shot a two-round 170 and freshman Katelyn Gilmore shot 184. Playing as an individual, sophomore Lindsey Huff also shot 184.

Huntingdon returns to action on Sept. 27-28 at home in the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate.
