Huntingdon places 2nd in MCC Women’s Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's golf team battled the weather on Monday but still finished second in the final round of the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate.

Playing through constant rain, the Lady Hawks shot 328 in the final round and finished with a 647. Sewanee shot 313 in the final round and won the tournament with a score of 623. Methodist was third at 659.

Due to the conditions, only five golfers shot in the 70s on Monday. Two were from Huntingdon. Freshman Hallie Rice and junior Savannah Humber each shot 79 in the final round. Rice finished tied for second with a two-round 159 and Humber tied for fifth at 161.

Sewanee's Emily Javadi turned in the low round both days. A day after shooting a 3-under-par 70, Javadi closed the tournament with an even-par 73 and shot a 3-under 143 for the tournament.

Junior LeeAnn Cahoon finished 11th at 163 and junior Courtney Harville tied for 12th at 164. Sophomore Kelsey Spivey finished with a two-round 170.

Playing as individuals, freshman Katelyn Gilmore shot 167 for the tournament, sophomore Lindsey Huff shot 172, senior Shay Roberson shot 184 and senior Jessie Culey shot 189.

Huntingdon returns to action on Oct. 11 in Destin, Fla., in the Golfweek D3 Invitational.
