Lady Hawks place 2nd in rain-shortened Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The final round of the Rhodes Invitational was canceled on Monday due to heavy rain.

Rhodes College was the tournament champion with a 301 in the first round and Huntingdon was second with a 315.

"It was unfortunate the girls were rained out today because I know they were ready for battle," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "I'm proud of the girls for their performance in the first round. A second-place finish gives us wins against a couple of teams we needed to beat."

Rhodes' Meg Healy was the tournament medalist with a 1-under 71 in the first round. Two Huntingdon golfers made the All-Tournament team for their first-round performance.

Junior Courtney Harville tied for fifth with a 77 and sophomore Kelsey Spivey tied for eighth with a 78.

"I'm proud of the girls for getting a good first round under their belts on Sunday. With this rain out, I think they have a better understanding of why it's so important to start strong in a tournament," Huntingdon assistant golf coach Ashley Crane said. "We were prepared to play in the rain today and I am proud of the girls' attitudes. When some other schools seemed down and ready to leave, our girls were still ready to play and try to chip away at Rhodes' lead."

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Blast Invitational.
