MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's LeeAnn Cahoon recently turned in a strong showing in the 84th Alabama Women's State Amateur.

Cahoon earned medalist honors during stroke play and advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Championship Division in match play.

"The Women's State Amateur is a major event here in Alabama, so to have one of our girls on top of the leaderboard after stroke play was nice to see," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said.

Cahoon, a native of Prattville, Ala., shot an even-par 71 during stroke play at the Musgrove Country Club in Jasper, Ala. The University of Montevallo's Elaine Wood and Spain Park High School rising senior Jordan Susce each shot 3-over 74 to tie for second.

Cahoon entered the Championship Division of match play as the No. 1 seed. After falling in the opening round, she advanced to the consolation bracket where she picked up one win before falling in the semifinals. Montevallo's Wood defeated Vanderbilt commitment Virginia Green to win the Championship Division of match play.

Huntingdon's Hallie Rice finished seventh in stroke play with a 6-over 77 and advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of the Championship Division in match play.

"Hallie was right there in seventh-place after stroke play," Schreyer said. "To see two of our girls in the top-10 was very exciting. It shows how Huntingdon matches up in the state in women's golf."
