Huntingdon places second in MCC Women’s Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's golf team closed out the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate with a 309 on Monday.

The Lady Hawks shot 620 for the tournament and finished second behind defending Division III national champion Rhodes College. Rhodes won the 12-team tournament with a two-round score of 603. Berry College was third at 624.

"I'm really proud of the girls. We didn't play our best the past two days, but we competed and we finished second to the defending national champion," Huntingdon associate head golf coach Ashley Crane said. "That says a lot about these girls and I know they are going to keep working and continue to improve."

Rhodes' Mackenzie Cohen was the medalist with a 2-under-par 144. Five Lady Hawks finished in the top-21 in the field of 71.

Senior LeeAnn Cahoon tied for fourth with an 8-over 154 and sophomore Katelyn Gilmore tied for seventh with a 9-over 155. Junior Kelsey Spivey tied for 11th with a 10-over 156, senior Courtney Harville tied for 16th with an 11-over 157 and sophomore Hallie Rice tied for 21st with a 13-over 159.

Harville shot her best collegiate round, a 3-over 76, to lead the Lady Hawks in the final round.

"This was the last home event for LeeAnn and Courtney and I'm proud of the way they led the team in this tournament," Crane said.

The Huntingdon B-Team finished 11th with a score of 709. Junior Lindsey Huff led the B-Team with a 6-over 79 in the final round and a 168 for the tournament. Freshman Madi DeWees followed with a two-round 175, freshman Hannah Amburn shot 176, freshman Lexa Marchese shot 198 and freshman Morgan Herfindahl shot 206.
