MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's golf team will look to build off a solid fall as the Lady Hawks open their spring schedule on Monday.

The Lady Hawks just missed out on the NCAA tournament last season, but focus will be on making it in 2017.

Huntingdon will open its spring schedule at the Callaway Gardens Invitational in Pine Mountain, Ga. The Lady Hawks placed fourth in the event last season and enter the spring ranked 20th in Division III.

"I feel like we are one of the top teams here at Callaway," associate head golf coach Ashley Crane said. "There are a lot of really talented teams at this tournament, but our girls are prepared and ready to take on the best in the country."

In four events during the fall, the Lady Hawks placed third in the Birmingham-Southern Shootout, tied for eighth in the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic, finished second in the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate and placed sixth in the Golfweek D3 Invitational.

"I feel like we underachieved this fall," Crane said. "We are a top 10-15 team but we need to start playing like it consistently. We have had an awesome offseason and the weather has been great for the girls.

"They have put so many hours into practicing and getting better and I'm expecting a better spring season than the fall and I know our girls are ready to play."

In the Birmingham-Southern Shootout, the Lady Hawks shot a two-round total of 615, setting a program record.

Huntingdon will have seniors LeeAnn Cahoon and Courtney Harville and junior Kelsey Spivey making the trip to Callaway. Sophomore Katelyn Gilmore and freshman Madi DeWees round out the top five.

Cahoon enters her final season ranked eighth in Division III. The senior finished in the top-four in three of the four tournaments this fall and took first place honors in the Birmingham-Southern Shootout. The win marked the first individual tournament win in program history.

"LeeAnn is excited to play this spring," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "She worked really hard during the fall and we're looking for her to have a strong start to the spring."

Cahoon also shot a program-best 69 in the opening round of the Birmingham-Southern Shootout. Her 2-over 142 in the tournament marked the best 36-hole total in program history.

Harville will begin her final season as a Lady Hawks on Monday. The senior had two top-20 finishes in the fall and her 16th place finish in the MCC Women's Intercollegiate marked her best finish of the fall. Harville has been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar team the past three years.

Gilmore enters the spring ranked 36th in Division III. The sophomore had three top-20 finishes in the fall and tied for seventh in the MCC Women's Intercollegiate. Gilmore tied for 16th in the D3 Invitational and finished 18th at the Birmingham-Southern Shootout.

Spivey enters the spring ranked 53th in Division III. The junior tied for 11th in the MCC Women's Intercollegiate and tied for 21st in the D3 Invitational.

Dewees begins her first spring as a Lady Hawk. The freshman competed in three events in the fall and recorded tied for 21st in the Birmingham-Southern Shootout.
