Huntingdon ties for 4th in Sewanee Spring Invitational

DICKSON, Tenn. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shot four strokes better on Monday but could not gain ground in the final standings of the Sewanee Spring Invitational.

Entering the final round, the Lady Hawks were fourth and three strokes out of first with a 323. Huntingdon shot 319 in the final round and finished tied for fourth with a two-round 642.

Ninth-ranked Berry, which was tied for first after Round 1, shot 315 in the final round and won the tournament with a 635. Oglethorpe was second at 636 and 21st-ranked Sewanee was third at 640. Seventeenth-ranked Huntingdon, Birmingham-Southern and fifth-ranked Methodist tied for fourth.

Sophomore Madi DeWees turned in Huntingdon's best round on Monday with a 5-over-par 78. DeWees tied for 23rd with a two-round 164. Junior Vanessa Leiterman shot 80 on Monday and led Huntingdon for the tournament. Leiterman finished seven strokes out of first and tied for ninth with a two-round 158.

Junior Katelyn Gilmore shot 79 in the final round and tied for 15th with a 161 and freshman Anna Beth Harris shot 82 in the final round to finish with a 172.

Sewanee's Meghan Symonds was the tournament medalist with a two-round 151.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the IWU Spring Fling on Saturday and Sunday.
