Gilmore finishes 5th in Golfweek DIII Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. – Senior Katelyn Gilmore turned in her best collegiate round on Tuesday to close out the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational.

Gilmore shot a 2-under-par 70 at Baytowne Golf Club in the final round to finish four strokes out of first. Gilmore shot a three-round 227 to finish fifth. Gilmore's 70 is tied for the second best round in Lady Hawks' history and is one stroke off the program record of 69 set by LeeAnn Cahoon during the 2016-17 season.

As a team, 24th-ranked Huntingdon shot 312 in the final round and finished eighth with a three-round 956. Sixth-ranked Rhodes won the 18-team tournament with a 920. Sixteenth-ranked Carnegie Mellon was second with a 938.

Rhodes' Tabitha Diehl was the tournament medalist with a 7-over 223.

Behind Gilmore, senior Vanessa Leiterman shot 78 in the final round and tied for 13th with a three-round 233. Junior Madi DeWees finished with a three-round 249 and sophomore Anna Beth Harris and freshman Debra Ann Burdeshaw tied for 74th with a three-round 254.

Playing as an individual, freshman Abigail Cody finished with a three-round 274.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will close out the fall season in the Chick-fil-A Invitational on Oct. 22-23.
