Women’s golf ties for 5th in Callaway Gardens Invitational

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shot 327 on Saturday and tied for fifth in the rain-shortened Callaway Gardens Invitational.                 

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Friday and Saturday. Due to the weather, Saturday was the only round completed.

Methodist University won the 15-team tournament with a 308 and Pomona-Pitzer was second with a 315. Christopher Newport was third with a 323, Berry College was fourth with a 325 and Washington and Lee tied for fifth with Huntingdon.

Seniors Vanessa Leiterman and Katelyn Gilmore each shot 6-over-par 79 to tie for 12th. Freshman Debra Ann Burdeshaw shot an 81 and junior Madi DeWees and freshman Abigail Cody each shot 88. Playing as an individual, sophomore Anna Beth Harris shot 87.

Centre's Bailey Plourde and Washington and Lee's Beth Ann Townsend each shot 2-over 75 to earn co-medalist honors.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the Jekyll Island Invitational on March 15-17.
