Lady Hawks lacrosse knocks off Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half and beat Birmingham-Southern 13-12 on Saturday.

The first-year Lady Hawks (7-5) scored three goals in the final 17 minutes to down the fifth-year Panthers. Jen Price scored twice in a three-minute span to tie the game and then made an assist to Kalyn Spatol on the go-ahead goal with 6:54 to play.

"This was a big win for us and I'm so proud of these girls," Huntingdon head coach Liz Frisoli said. "We played five games over spring break and we finished with three good wins. Today, when we needed to make a push at the end, the girls stepped up. We put together a full 60 minutes today."

Huntingdon goalie Alexis McDonald turned in a strong performance, recording 21 saves and five ground balls. The 21 saves ties the program record McDonald set on March 21 at Ferrum. She has 136 saves in 11 games this season. McDonald made two saves in the final 68 seconds on Saturday, the final one coming after a free-position attempt with 16 seconds to play.

"Alexis has been a leader for us this season and she is one of the main reasons we won today," Frisoli said. "She had a fantastic performance today."

Briana Gress scored four goals and had six ground balls for the Lady Hawks. Price, Spatol, Jamie Reschke and Shannen O'Leary each scored two goals and Lonnitria Keenan scored one goal. Price had two assists and five ground balls and O'Leary finished with two assists, six draw controls and five ground balls. Spatol also had four draw controls

Huntingdon closes outs its home schedule on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game against Berry.
