Women’s lacrosse opens conference play with win over N.C. Wesleyan

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team scored 16 goals in the first half and knocked off North Carolina Wesleyan 21-5 on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.

For Huntingdon (3-2, 1-0 USA South), it was the second straight 20-goal game and the sixth 20-goal game in the 19-game history of the program. The 21 goals are tied for the second most scored in a game by the second-year Lady Hawks. Huntingdon scored 26 goals against Reinhardt last season.

N.C. Wesleyan (0-2, 0-1 USA South) scored a little less than four minutes into the game as Huntingdon held a 2-1 lead. The Lady Hawks answered with 14 straight goals to put the game away.

Kalyn Spatol led Huntingdon with six goals and four ground balls, Lonnitria Keenan had five goals and three ground balls and Shannen O'Leary had three assists and 10 draw controls. Jamie Reschke and Briana Gress each scored three goals and Jen Price, Bridget Lee, Taylor Hinton and Sam Baker each scored one goal.

Reschke, Price, Baker and Kate Heinrichs each had one assist and Price also had five ground balls. Tori Krupa recorded seven ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Goalie Alexis McDonald finished with seven saves and three ground balls.
