Women’s lacrosse falls in close battle with Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team battled Birmingham-Southern to the end on Thursday, but the Panthers held on for a 12-10 win.

Trailing 11-7 in the final five minutes, Huntingdon's Briana Gress, Shannen O'Leary and Sam Baker each scored in a span of 62 seconds to make it a one-goal game. But Birmingham-Southern scored with 19 seconds left to seal the game.

Lonnitria Keenan had three goals, two assists and four ground balls for Huntingdon (7-8), Baker had two goals and an assist and O'Leary scored two goals.

Kate Heinrichs had two goals and three caused turnovers and Gress had one goal and three draw controls. Jen Price had three draw controls and Tori Krupa had five ground balls.

Goalie Alexis McDonald recorded 16 saves and six ground balls.

Huntingdon returns to action on Sunday at noon at Greensboro in the opening round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.
