Women’s lacrosse can’t keep pace with Centre

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team lost to Centre College 18-7 on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks fell behind by two goals early in the first half before Briana Gress found the back of the net to pull within one. Centre scored four straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 16:59 remaining in the first.

Jen Price netted a goal to pull within four but Centre added three goals to take a 9-2 lead. Lonnitria Keenan scored for Huntingdon (0-3) with 20 seconds left in the half.

Centre opened the second half with three goals before Shannen O'Leary scored her only goal of the game. Freshmen Jade Paul and Ariana Kelty each scored to pull within seven but Centre (1-1) answered with four straight goals to take a 17-6 lead with 12:05 left.

Price added her second goal of the game before Centre closed out the scoring with 7:17 left.

Price finished with two goals, one assist and two caused turnovers while Gress scored once and had one assist.

O'Leary had one goal, two ground balls and five draw controls. Goalie Katie Bianco recorded nine saves, five ground balls and allowed 18 goals.

The Lady Hawks travel to Atlanta to play Oglethorpe at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
