Lady Hawks handle Illinois Tech in Tuesday's win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Candace Williams scored four goals to lead the Huntingdon women's lacrosse team past Illinois Tech 12-9 on Tuesday.

In addition to the four goals, Williams had seven draw controls and caused four turnovers. Lonnitria Keenan added four points with two goals and two assists while seven different players scored for Huntingdon (5-4).

Williams found the back of the net 19 seconds into the game to put Huntingdon up 1-0. Kennan and Carolyn Smith followed with goals of their own before Illinois Tech scored three straight to even the score.

Shannen O'Leary assisted Briana Gress to give the Lady Hawks their final lead of the game. Kennan assisted on the next two goals for Huntingdon while O'Leary closed out the first half scoring with 14:40 remaining. Huntingdon took a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The Scarlet Hawks (3-2) opened the second half with two unanswered goals to pull within two but Huntingdon answered with five straight to go-ahead 12-5.

Illinois Tech closed the game with four unanswered goals but time ran out as the Lady Hawks picked up their third win at Samford Stadium this season.

Victoria Krupa recorded nine saves and allowed nine goals in her first game in goal this season for Huntingdon.

Defensively, Mikalah Bowman recorded four caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls while Joi Iverson had two caused turnovers and had a team-high five ground balls.

Bridget Lee, Greess and Smith each scored once while Jen Price scored twice. O'Leary finished with one goal and two assists and had two draw controls.

The Lady Hawks travel to Florida on Thursday to take on Sewanee in a neutral site game at 5 p.m.
