Lady Hawks fall in defensive battle to Methodist

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team fell 10-6 to Methodist University in Saturday's USA South matchup at Samford Stadium.

The Lady Hawks (5-5, 1-2 USA South) were outshot 31-20 but scored on three extra-man opportunities and matched Methodist with nine draw controls. Huntingdon lost 17-9 to Methodist last season.

Freshman Ariana Kelty scored the game's first goal 1:29 into the contest before Methodist answered with three straight goals.

Jade Paul found Bridget Lee for a man-up goal with 1:50 remaining to help Huntingdon pull within one, but the Monarchs (5-4, 1-2 USA South) closed the half with two goals in nine seconds to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

Kelty found the back of the net on a free-position shot 27 seconds into the second, but two goals by Methodist put Huntingdon down by four. Kelty recorded a hat-trick with 23:55 remaining before Jen Price scored a man-up goal to pull within two.

Briana Gress scored Huntingdon's final goal with 12:51 left, but Methodist closed the game with two goals in the final nine minutes to take the win.

Junior Victoria Krupa recorded 12 saves and four ground balls while allowing 10 goals in her second game in goal this season.

Price finished with one goal and two draw controls. Lee and Gress each scored once while Paul had Huntingdon's only assist and collected five ground balls.

Joi Iverson caused three turnovers.

Huntingdon hosts Meredith College on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Samford Stadium.
