Lady Hawks can't overcome slow start

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team fell to Transylvania University 15-9 on Tuesday in a non-conference match.

Trailing 12-2 at half, the Lady Hawks outscored the Pioneers 7-3 in the second, but a slow start cost Huntingdon (5-7) a shot at the win.  

Briana Gress scored her first of three goals to open the second half. Jen Price, Gress and Shannen O'Leary added goals to pull Huntingdon within six. Transylvania (7-2) answered with two goals before the Lady Hawks scored three of the final four goals of the game.

Ariana Kelty scored her second goal with 6:20 left followed by Gress scoring her third with over three minutes left. Price netted the game's final goal with 34 seconds left to close out the loss.

Price finished with two goals and one assist and had four draw-controls, five ground balls and had two caused turnovers.

Gress had three goals on three shots-on-goal. Kelty scored twice as O'Leary had two goals and four draw-controls. Jade Paul added one assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Defensively, Joi Iverson had a game-high five caused turnovers and three ground balls. Victoria Krupa recorded 12 saves while allowing 15 goals.

The Lady Hawks host Piedmont College on April 2 at 11 a.m. for senior day.
