Lady Hawks come up short against Oglethorpe

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team lost 14-11 to Oglethorpe on Monday.

Huntingdon drops to 0-3 on the season as Oglethorpe improves to 2-3.

Both teams traded a pair of goals to start the game Victoria Krupa assisted both Huntingdon goals in the first 9:03 of the game. Sarah Brooks scored the Lady Hawks first goal before Maddy Morrison tied the game 2-2 with 20:57 remaining in the opening half.

Oglethorpe used a 6-0 run to pull ahead 8-2, but Jade Paul scored with 8:28 to stop the Stormy Petrel attack. Morrison added her second goal with an assist from Krupa to pull Huntingdon within four, but Oglethorpe scored the final three goals in the half to take an 11-4 lead into the break.

Krupa opened the second-half with a goal in the first 17 seconds before Paul scored 38 seconds later to make the score 11-6.

Oglethorpe responded with a goal of its own but Mikalah Bowman added a pair of goals to pull Huntingdon within four. The Stormy Petrels scored their final goals in the game before Huntingdon used a 3-0 run to cut the lead to three.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final 9:57 as Oglethorpe left with the win.

Brooks and Krupa led Huntingdon with four points. Krupa recorded three assists and one goal while Brooks had three goals and one assist. Brooks finished with four ground balls and two draw controls.

Paul scored three goals and had a game-high six ground balls and five draw controls. Bowman and Morrison each scored twice. Bowman took two draw controls and had four grounds balls. Madison Rackley had one assist and two ground balls.

Alyssa Alvarado had 10 saves and four ground balls.

Huntingdon travels to future USA South opponent Brevard on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
