Huntingdon women close out conference play with win over LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team honored four seniors on Saturday and beat USA South Athletic Conference rival LaGrange 15-5.

Huntingdon recognized seniors Alexa Murray, Victoria Krupa, Kira Bohlke and Mikalah Bowman.

The Lady Hawks (3-11, 2-4 USA South) led 5-2 at halftime, but outscored the Panthers (2-8, 0-6 USA South) 10-3 in the final 30 minutes to take the win.

Sophomore Jade Paul had six points off five goals and one assist while freshman Maddy Morrison scored five goals.  

LaGrange scored the opening goal in the first 1:25 to jump out to a 1-0 lead, but Huntingdon scored three unanswered goals to take the lead. The Lady Hawks held the lead for the final 46:29.

Murray put Huntingdon on the board before Morrison scored a pair of goals to give Huntingdon a 3-1 lead. After a Panthers goal, goals by Morrison and Krupa sent Huntingdon into halftime with a 5-2 lead.

The Lady Hawks opened the second half with seven straight goals to pull ahead 12-2. Bowman started the scoring five minutes into the half before Murray added her second goal. Paul would go on to score four goals before Morrison scored with 17:58 remaining in the game.

LaGrange answered with a pair of goals, but Paul, Morrison and Sam Blount added goals in less than three minutes to close out the Lady Hawks scoring.

In addition to the six points, Paul added five draw controls while Morrison had four draw controls. Murray finished with two goals and one assist and had three ground balls.

Krupa had one goal and two draw controls. The senior stepped into goal for the Lady Hawks for the final 2:50 of the game.

Bowman and Blount each had goals while Carolyn Smith had one assist.

Goalie Alyssa Alvarado recorded four saves and three ground balls in the win.
