Lady Hawks knock off Salem for first win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 16-6 win over Salem College on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks never trailed in the game and carried a 5-3 lead into the half. Huntingdon outscored the Spirits 11-3 in the second half to pull away.

Shelby Martin led Huntingdon with four goals, an assist, six draw controls, three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sam Blount also scored four goals, including three straight in an 81-second span in the second half.

Kaylee Andrews added two goals and two assists and Ali Brewer and Trinity McManus each scored two goals. Brewer also had two caused turnovers and four draw controls. Madison Rackley scored one goal, had two caused turnovers, three draw controls and four ground balls.

Chassity Page scored the first goal of the game and finished with one goal, one assist, two caused turnovers and three ground balls and Vanessa Maldonado had one assist. Alex Teague finished with two caused turnovers.

Goalie Meranda Florez recorded nine saves and four ground balls and allowed six goals in 60 minutes.
