Huntingdon picks up second win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 17 goals and downed North Carolina Wesleyan 17-11 on Friday in the final home game of the season.

Playing without any seniors and just three juniors, the young Lady Hawks led for the entire game. Huntingdon took a 6-2 lead in the first half before the Battling Bishops rallied and cut the Lady Hawks' lead to 6-5 with 7:33 left in the first half.

Huntingdon closed the first half with back-to-back goals by junior Kaylee Andrews and one goal by freshman Shelby Martin to make it 9-5 at halftime. A goal by sophomore Ali Brewer in the first 25 second of the second half made it a five goal game.

The Lady Hawks continued to pull ahead and took their largest lead, 16-7, on a goal by Martin with 10:26 to play in the game.

Andrews and Martin each finished with four goals for Huntingdon. Andrews also had two assists and three ground balls. Martin had four ground balls.

Sophomore Sam Blount and freshman Trinity McManus each had two goals and an assist and Brewer had two goals, seven draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore Chassity Page, junior Madison Rackley and sophomore Vanessa Maldonado each finished with one goal and three draw controls. Junior Hannah Parks had three ground balls.

Freshman goalie Morgan Pelfrey finished with nine save in 20 shots on goal.
