MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team battled Averett University into the second half on Saturday before falling 15-7.
Kaylee Andrews scored on an assist from Vanessa Maldonado with 23:03 to play in the game to pull within one goal, 7-6. But from there, Averett began to ease ahead. The Cougars scored four goals during the next 11 minutes to pull ahead and closed the game with four goals in the final 9:47.
Shelby Martin led Huntingdon with five goals and three draw controls. Andrews added two goals and three draw controls and Maldonado and Savannah Ryan each had one assist. Alex Teague had two caused turnovers.
Goalie Morgan Coppini had 15 saves, 15 goals allowed and five ground balls in 60 minutes.
