Huntingdon comes up short against Brevard

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team led early but lost to Brevard College 7-6 on Sunday.

Savannah Ryan and Shelby Martin scored the first two goals of the game to give Huntingdon a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes. Another goal by Martin put Huntingdon ahead 3-2 with 14:08 left in the first half.

From there, the momentum turned to Brevard. The Tornados scored three goals in the final 10:44 of the first half and two goals in the first 6:07 of the second half to take a 7-3 lead.

Huntingdon rallied with three goals in the final 23 minutes to pull within one goal, but could not complete the comeback. Goals by Martin and Olivia Stinson made it 7-5 before Martin added the final goal with 1:57 to play in the game.

Martin finished with four goals, an assist, three draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Ryan had one goal and four ground balls, Stinson had one goal, an assist and two caused turnovers and Vanessa Maldonado had one assist.

Kaylee Andrews had four draw controls and three ground balls, Alex Teague had three caused turnovers and Keirstin Cramer had two draw controls.

Goalie Morgan Coppini had five saves, seven goals allowed and three ground balls in 60 minutes.
