Hudson Goes For 13, Hawks Fall To Warren Wilson On The Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Coming off of their season-opening loss at the hands of Oglethorpe University, Huntingdon women's lacrosse traveled to Warren Wilson to take on the Owls in their second game of the 2025 calendar year.

Despite the Hawks valiant offensive effort, including 13 goals alone from Kate Hudson, Huntingdon was taken down 20-16 by the 2-2 Owls.

How it happened

The game opened up with a Warren Wilson goal less than two minutes into the matchup. Kate Hudson responded with her first goal of the afternoon at the 12:49 mark to even the score at 1. The Owls fought back with two consecutive goals to raise a 3-1 lead with 8:26 remaining in the quarter. Hudson wasn't finished however, scoring two unanswered goals of her own to bring the score to 3-3 as the second quarter got underway.

Warren Wilson caught fire as the second quarter got underway, opening up a 6-0 run to bring their advantage to 9-3 by the 7:28 mark. Kate Hudson put in two more goals as the half drew near, but the Owls kept their hot hand to lead 12-5 at the halftime break.

The Owls picked up where they left off with a goal in the opening stages of the third quarter to raise their lead to 13-5. Colby Jones scored just 20 second later to stop the bleeding momentarily, but two more Warren Wilson goals brought the score to 15-6 by the 11:32 mark. Kate Hudson scored yet again at the 8:19 mark to cut into the lead, but the Owls responded with another goal of their own to bring the score to 16-7 by the 7:11 mark.

Consecutive goals from Hudson and Khrystal Graham brought Huntingdon within 7, 16-9, with two minutes remaining in the quarter,  to which the Owls responded with a goal inside the final minute. Kate Hudson's 8th goal of the afternoon of an assist from Reagan Barrett brought the score to 17-10 with a quarter to play.

Kate Hudson caught fire as the fourth quarter began, scoring 3 of Huntingdon's 4 goals(Regan Barrett cashed in on the other shot) to bring the score to 17-14 with 8:43 remaining. Warren Wilson scored to pause the onslaught, but Hudson scored again at the 5:13 mark to cut the deficit to 18-15. She scored again with 3:13 remaining, but two more Owl goals brought the game to a close, with Warren Wilson claiming the 20-16 victory.

The Hawks look to get into the win column on March 8th at home against William Peace. Gametime is scheduled for 12:00 PM CT.
