Duncan hired to lead Huntingdon wrestling program

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon Athletic Director Mike Turk announced the hiring of Craig Duncan as head wrestling coach on Wednesday.

"We are extremely pleased that Coach Duncan has agreed to lead our program into the future," Turk said. "His character, credibility and accomplishments within the sport certainly qualify him to lead our young program in a successful manner."

Duncan met with his new team for the first time Tuesday afternoon.

"I am extremely excited about this," Duncan said. "It's a great opportunity for myself and my family and I am excited to join the Huntingdon family. I want to thank President J. Cameron West and Coach Turk for this opportunity.

"I want to do everything I can to help these guys be successful. I want the guys in our program to have the best chance to be successful on the mat and in the classroom. Huntingdon is a great academic institution. I want our guys to be able to get a great education and also have the opportunity to excel and reach their potential as wrestlers."

Duncan spent the past 11 seasons as the head wrestling coach at St. James School in Montgomery. He led the wrestling team to its first state title and also coached eight individual state champions.

He was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year for Alabama after leading the Trojans to the Class 1A-4A state title in 2013. The Trojans were the Class 1A-4A state runner-up in 2014. While at St. James, Duncan also served as an assistant football coach and golf coach.

Duncan earned his B.S. in physical education from Auburn University-Montgomery. He got his start in coaching at Hooper Academy from 1993-2004. During that time, he had the opportunity to coach wrestling, football, baseball, golf and track and field. He was also athletic director during a portion of his tenure.
