Hawks compete in Central Regional wrestling tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Huntingdon wrestling team won four matches and finished 12th in the 13-team Division III Central Regional Tournament on Sunday.
The Hawks finished with eight points. Top-ranked Wartburg College won its fourth straight Central Regional championship with 155 points while runner-up Luther College finished with 128 points.
DeAndre Beck (149 pounds) led Huntingdon with two wins while Mason Blakeney (133) and Jared Mercer (157) each won once.
Blakeney and Beck both won their opening matches before falling in the quarterfinals. Blakeney won by pin in 1:21 and Beck won in sudden victory, 4-2. In the quarterfinals, Blakeney lost to the eventual winner of the 133-pound weight class by technical fall, 17-1. Beck lost by pin in 1:37.
Beck answered back in the consolation bracket and won by pin in 1:09. Beck was eliminated in the following round by a decision of 9-2.
After losing his opening match, Mercer won by major decision, 12-2 in the first-round of the consolation bracket. Mercer lost the next round by pin in 2:26.
