Rowlen’s pin leads Hawks past Division II Ouachita Baptist

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior Jesse Rowlen earned a pin in the final seconds of the 285-pound match to help the Huntingdon wrestling team beat Division II Ouachita Baptist 22-21 on Tuesday in Wilson Gym.

Trailing 21-16 as Rowlen's match began, the Hawks needed a pin to overtake Ouachita Baptist. Rowlen pinned his opponent with six seconds remaining to secure the win.

The victory was the second in three matches for the Hawks and the first home win of the season.

The Hawks earned wins in five weight classes on Tuesday. Nelson Elder's win by major decision at 133 pounds and Mason Blakeney's pin at 144 pounds gave Huntingdon a 10-4 lead after three weight classes.

Deon Maxwell (165 pounds) and Wyatt Miller (174) each won by decision to put the Hawks ahead 16-11 with three matches remaining. Ouachita Baptist took a 17-16 lead with a pin and went ahead 21-16 with a major decision, setting the stage for the final match.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Saturday with a quad-match in Roland Arena. The Hawks will host Southern Virginia, University of the Ozarks and Truett-McConnell.
