Huntingdon places five wrestlers, finishes third in Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Huntingdon wrestling team finished third in the Southeast Wrestling Conference tournament and had five wrestlers place on Saturday.

Ferrum College took first place with 114.5 points while Greensboro finished second with 60.5 points. Huntingdon finished third with 52 points and University of the Ozarks finished fourth with 47 points. Southern Virginia closed out the top five with 24 points.

Ryan Brooks placed third in the 125 weight class, Quintez Pearson finished fourth at 149 pounds, Pierce Erhardt fell in the first place match to take second place in the 157 weight class, Deon Maxwell placed third at 165 pounds and Jesse Rowlen took third in the 285 weight class.

Brooks won his first match of the day by pin in 4:05 but lost by a 6-2 decision in the semifinals. The sophomore took a 9-5 decision in the consolation semifinals and won by forfeit in the third place match.

Pearson edged out a 6-5 decision in his first match but lost in the semifinals by way of a 19-1 technical fall. Pearson rebounded with a 9-2 decision but was pinned in the third place match in 6:38.

Erhardt started strong for the Hawks, winning his first two matches by pin and with a 13-4 major decision. The freshman was shutdown in the first place match and lost 22-9.

Maxwell took his first match, 8-5, but followed with a 10-2 major decision loss. Maxwell rebounded with two straight wins and claimed third place.

Wyatt Miller (174) took two wins but was pinned in the semifinals.

Rowlen closed the day for the Hawks. The junior won his first match, 19-4 but followed with a 6-3 loss on the semifinals. Rowlen answered back, pinning his opponent in 57 seconds before taking an 18-3 technical fall win for third place.

Huntingdon travels to Dubuque, Iowa on February 25 for the NCAA regional championship.
