Hawks win 31 matches in Millikin Open

DECATUR, Ill.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team won 31 matches in the Millikin Open on Saturday.

Nine Hawks finished in the top-seven of their weight classes, 11 Hawks won at least two matches and six Hawks won at least three matches.

Wyatt Miller won three matches and placed second in the 174-pound weight class. After receiving a bye in the first round, Miller won by pin (4:16) in the second round, won a 3-2 decision in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship match with a pin (4:48) in the semifinals. Miller lost by pin (3:49) in the championship match.

Pierce Erhardt won three matches and placed fourth in the 165-pound weight class. Erhardt won his first match 4-1 before losing in the quarterfinals and dropping to the consolation bracket. He won his first consolation match by pin (1:53) and won his second consolation match 8-1. He lost by pin (4:32) in the third-place match.

Three Hawks (Ryan Brooks, Quintez Pearson and Cody Dixon) finished fifth in their weight classes.

Brooks won three matches in the 125-pound weight class. Brooks lost his first match of the tournament but won two consolation matches with a 7-4 decision and an 11-1 tiebreaker. After losing in the consolation semifinals, Brooks won the fifth-place match 6-4.

Pearson won three matches in the 149-pound weight class. Pearson advanced to the quarterfinals with a bye and a 10-9 decision. After a loss in the quarterfinals, Pearson won his first consolation match 7-5 before losing a major decision 15-4. Pearson won the fifth-place match with a major decision (15-7).

Dixon won four matches in the 184-pound weight class. After losing his first match, Dixon advanced to the consolation semifinals with two wins by pin (5:49 and 0:46) and a major decision (11-2). After losing in the consolation semifinals, he won the fifth-place match by medical forfeit.

Jacob Smith and Matt King each finished sixth in their weight classes.

Smith won his first two matches in the 141-pound weight class, winning a 10-4 decision and a 6-5 decision, before losing by major decision (10-2) in the semifinals. He lost 6-3 in the consolation semifinals and 11-6 in the fifth-place match.

King won his first matches in the 165-pound weight class, winning by technical fall (18-0) and major decision (11-2), before losing by pin (6:17) in the semifinals. He lost 8-1 in his first consolation match and lost 11-5 in the fifth-place match.

Michael Mort and Reagan Prevatt both finished seventh in their weight classes.

Mort lost his first match in the 141-pound weight class by major decision (14-6) before winning his first consolation match 11-8. After a 13-7 loss in the second consolation match, Mort won the seventh-place match by pin (0:53).

Prevatt lost his first match in the 165-pound weight class by major decision (16-7) before winning three straight consolation matches. Prevatt won his first consolation match by major decision (11-2), picked up a 5-0 decision in the second consolation match and won the seventh-place match 4-3.
