Wrestling team earns split in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon wrestling team earned a split on Saturday against a pair of NAIA teams in the Hawks' first home matches of the season.

Huntingdon opened the day with a 24-11 win over Truett-McConnell before losing to Brewton-Parker 34-13. The win over Truett-McConnell was the Hawks' second straight against the Bears.

Cody Dixon (197 pounds) and Joseph Pearson (285) led the Hawks with wins in each match. Dixon won 5-1 against Truett-McConnell and won a major decision (11-0) against Brewton-Parker. Pearson won both of his matches by decision, winning 2-1 in the opening match and 5-2 in the final match.

Wyatt Miller (184) won by pin against Truett-McConnell and Mason Blakeney (141), Quintez Pearson (149), Kaleb Fontenot (157) and Pierce Erhardt (165) each won by decision.

The Hawks won three weight classes against Brewton-Parker. In addition to the wins by Dixon and Joseph Pearson, Jacob Smith (133) won by pin.
