Wrestling team raises the bar again with new program record for wins in a season

GAFFNEY, S.C.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team earned a split on Sunday to break the program record for wins in a season.

The Hawks fell to Limestone University 30-12 before closing the day with a 39-14 win over Spartanburg Methodist College.

The win over the Pioneers was the seventh dual-match victory of the season for the fifth-year Hawks, breaking the record of six wins set last season. In four seasons under head coach Craig Duncan, the Hawks have improved their win total each season.

Duncan, who joined the program in its second season, guided the Hawks to four wins during the 2015-16 season, five wins in 2016-17, six wins last season and seven wins so far this season. The Hawks have four schedule dual matches remaining this season.

Mason Blakeney (141 pounds) and Wyatt Miller (174) led the Hawks on Sunday with wins in each match. Blakeney and Miller each won by pin against Limestone. In the SMC match, Blakeney won by decision and Miller won by pin. Ryan Brooks (125), Quintez Pearson (149), Kaleb Fontenot (157), Reagan Prevatt (165) and Joseph Pearson (285) each won by forfeit.
