Hawks earn eighth win of the season in split with Ozarks and Greensboro

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon wrestling team earned a split against a pair of Division III programs on Saturday's Senior Day.

Huntingdon lost to the University of the Ozarks 30-21 before beating Greensboro 22-20. The fifth-year Hawks, who broke the program record for dual-match wins in a season earlier this month, extended their season record to eight wins with the victory over Greensboro.

Jacob Smith (133 pounds), Michael Mort (149), Wyatt Miller (165), Cody Dixon (184) and Joseph Pearson (285) each won against Greensboro. Pearson's pin in 43 seconds clinched the match for the Hawks. Huntingdon trailed 20-16 entering the final weight class.

Miller and Dixon were both 2-0 on the day. Miller won by decision in each match and Dixon won by decision and major decision. Miller, who now has 43 career victories, is just the second Huntingdon wrestler to reach 40 wins. Former wrestler and current assistant coach DeAndre Beck set the program record with 48 wins.

Mort won by pin against Greensboro and Smith won by decision.

Against Ozarks, Mason Blakeney (141) and Kaleb Fontenot (157) both won by pin and Quintez Pearson (149) won by decision.
