Five Hawks place in Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Five Huntingdon wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight classes in the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Wyatt Miller (165 pounds) and Joseph Pearson (285) both placed second, Michael Mort (149) and Cody Dixon (184) each placed third and Ryan Brooks (125) placed fourth.

As a team, Huntingdon scored 52 points to finish fifth. Ferrum won the six-team tournament with 112.5 points. The University of the Ozarks was second with 90.5 points, Greensboro was third with 60 points and Averett was fourth with 55 points. Southern Virginia University was sixth with 30.5 points.

Miller and Pearson each went 2-1 in the tournament. Miller won his first match by pin and his semifinal match by decision before losing by technical fall in the 165 championship match. Pearson won two matches by decision before losing by pin in the 285-pound championship.

Mort and Dixon were both 3-1 in the tournament. Mort won his first match by pin but lost by pin in the 149 semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Mort won by decision and won the third-place match by technical fall.

Dixon won his first match by technical fall before losing by decision in the 184 semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Dixon won by decision and won the third-place match by technical fall.

Brooks finished 2-2 in the tournament. Brooks won his first match by disqualification before losing by technical fall in the 125 semifinals. Brooks won by decision in the consolation semifinals and lost by decision in the third-place match.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will compete in the NCAA Regional Championship on Feb. 23- 24.
