Hawks earn 16 wins in Georgia Open

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team had two fourth-place finishers and won 16 matches in the Georgia Open on Saturday.

Andrew Smith (125 pounds) and Jack Haury (197) placed fourth in their weight classes and four Hawks won multiple matches.

Smith won two matches to place fourth in the 125-pound weight class. He won his first match by major decision (12-2) and won his quarterfinal match 4-0 before losing 3-1 in the semifinals. Smith lost 3-2 in the third-place match.

After receiving a bye in Round 1 of the 197-pound weight class, Haury won by pin (6:28) in the quarterfinals and lost by pin in the semifinals. Haury lost by major decision in the third-place match.

Kaleb Fontenot (157), Kiefer Bangham (157) and Joseph Pearson (285) each won two matches. Fontenot and Bangham each advanced to the third round of consolation and Pearson reached the fourth round of consolation. Fontenot's two wins were by major decision and decision, Bangham earned his wins by a decision and a pin and Pearson recorded a pin in each of his two wins.
