Huntingdon earns 11 wins in Star City Classic

SALEM, Va.  –Two Huntingdon wrestlers placed in the top six and the Hawks won 11 matches in the Star City Classic on Sunday.

Huntingdon finished 10th with 32 points. Otterbein University won the 13-team tournament with 160.5 points. Ferrum College was second with 126 points.

Andrew Smith (125 pounds) placed fifth, Gabriel Pittman (165) placed sixth and four other Hawks won at least one match.

Smith won three matches to place fifth. After losing by pin in his first match of the tournament, Smith won three consolation matches. He won his first consolation match by major decision and won his consolation semifinal match by injury default before winning by pin in the fifth-place match.

Pittman also won three matches and advanced to the fifth-place match in his weight class. Pittman won his first match of the day by technical fall before losing by technical fall in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Pittman won in sudden victory and by decision before losing by major decision in the fifth-place match.

Jack Haury won two matches in the 197-pound weight class. Haury won his first match by decision before losing by pin in Round 2. In the consolation bracket, Haury won by forfeit before losing by decision in his final match.

Michael Mort (141), Quintez Pearson (149) D.J. Adams (197) each won one match in the consolation bracket.
