Huntingdon comes up short at Truett-McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team rallied from an early deficit but fell to Truett-McConnell 27-26 on Monday.

With the help of forfeits in the first two weight classes, the NAIA Bears jumped out to a 16-0 lead before Huntingdon won five of the final seven weight classes.

Quintez Pearson (149 pounds) won by technical fall for the Hawks' first victory of the day. Kaleb Fontenot (157) and Jayson Spencer (174) each won by forfeit as Huntingdon cut the Bears' lead to 21-17. But Truett-McConnell answered with a pin to make it 27-17.

With two weight classes remaining, Jack Haury (197) won by decision (6-3) and Joseph Pearson (285) earned a pin in the final match.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action at home on Dec. 7 against Emmanuel College and St. Andrews University.
