HUNTINGDON WOMEN FALL TO ASU IN SOCCER SEASON OPENER

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team showed glimpses of what head coach Wes Anania was looking for Thursday night.

But the night belonged to Alabama State University. The Division I team knocked off Huntingdon 2-0.

"I'm not disappointed in our effort. I'm just disappointed in the outcome," Anania said. "We had chances and they had chances. They were just able to put it away."

Jasmine Wilson and Helma Van Zadow scored for ASU (1-4).

Huntingdon keeper Jenny Burnash finished with nine saves. Molly Crossno and Jaden Rountree each had two shots for the Hawks (0-1). Jessica Salinas, Heather Wilson and Stephanie Metz each had one shot.

"This was a good test for us in our first game," Anania said. "As far as the physicality, this is pretty close to what we're going to see in conference play. Playing a team like this right off should definitely help us move in the right direction."

The Hawks return to action at home on Monday against Judson. The game is set for 1 p.m.
