Six Lady Hawks earn GSAC soccer recognition

ATLANTA – Six Huntingdon women's soccer players earned All-Conference or All-Freshman recognition with the release of the Great South Athletic Conference awards on Thursday.

Senior Jenny Burnash and juniors Mary Kathryn Allen and Kate Garrigan earned All-Conference and Josie Byard, Carlie Reed and Ashlie Fristoe were named to the All-Freshman team.

"This is good recognition for these players," Huntingdon head coach Robert Milner said. "It's a good mixture of upper classmen and new players. Jenny, Mary Kathryn and Kate have been three good leaders this season and Josie, Carlie and Ashlie have each given us a spark when we needed it. Each of them has worked hard and they're reaping the benefits."

Burnash, a four-year player for the Lady Hawks and a two-time All-Conference selection at goalkeeper, has 107 saves this season and 512 saves for her career. Allen, a defender, and Garrigan, a midfielder, both helped anchor the Lady Hawks' defense this season.

Byard has started every game as a freshman, playing multiple positions. She leads the team with five goals and scored the game-winning goal in two of Huntingdon's three wins. Reed worked her way into the Lady Hawks' starting lineup midway through the season and Fristoe is Huntingdon's second-leading scorer this season.

The Lady Hawks return to action Saturday in the GSAC tournament at Agnes Scott. Huntingdon, the third seed, faces second seeded Agnes Scott in the tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. The GSAC championship game is set for noon on Sunday.
