MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team will open its season on Saturday against Millsaps at 3 p.m. at the Huntingdon soccer field.

"I think we'll be well prepared, more than we have been in the past few seasons because we actually have more than 10 days of practice," head coach Robert Milner said. "We've had a chance to work a little more and develop a little more before our first game."

The Lady Hawks took part in an exhibition match Tuesday night against Faulkner and dropped a 1-0 decision.

"I am pleased and disappointed at the same time," Milner said. "I'm pleased with our positive display and disappointed with the result as all of us know we deserved more out of the game. I thought we were good for a tie and even a win if we took our chances.

"We showed a mature and professional account of ourselves. The game is a building block so we are excited as a team to see what we can do versus a strong Millsaps College team on Saturday."

The Lady Hawks are coming off a 3-14-1 season a year ago. They open this season with two home games and will begin conference play on Sept. 21 at Meredith. This is Huntingdon's first season as a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

"I am excited for the challenge of back-to-back home games before going on the road for three straight games," Milner said. "We play our first game in our new conference in two weeks and that's exciting. As a coach and a former student-athlete you want to be involved with the elite.

"Being involved in the USA South will certainly put us in an elite NCAA Division III conference. The ladies, assistant coach Emily Barber and I are all looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Saturday's match up will also be the season-opener for the Majors, a team that went 8-10-1 in 2012. The Hawks fell to Millsaps 3-0 last season.
