Huntingdon’s Byard named to USA South All-Conference team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon sophomore Josie Byard was one of three goalkeepers recognized on Wednesday with the release of the USA South women's soccer All-Conference teams.

In her first season as Huntingdon's full-time keeper, Byard was named third-team All-Conference.

"Josie is very deserving of this recognition," Huntingdon women's soccer coach Robert Milner said. "She led the conference in shutouts, saves and save percentage and had a great season. As she keeps working, I look for her to achieve more next season.

"This was a good start for our program in a new and demanding conference. With such a young team and with so many players coming back, I think there is a bright future ahead for this team."

A native of Dothan, Ala., Byard started at keeper in all 18 games this season and recorded seven shutouts, 158 saves and a .878 save percentage. The Lady Hawks allowed a goal or less in 12 games this season. Byard ranked 21st in Division III in total saves and 24th in save percentage.

Byard recorded a season-high 18 saves in a 2-1 loss to regular-season conference champion Maryville.
