Huntingdon’s Clark named USA South Rookie of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon freshman Shelby Clark scored three goals in her second collegiate game.

The hat trick in a 10-0 win over Johnson University helped her earn the season's first USA South Rookie of the Week Award for women's soccer. The conference Athletes of the Week were released on Monday.

Huntingdon (1-1) returns to action on Saturday at Agnes Scott.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Joel Friesen, Covenant - The senior midfielder from Waxhaw, North Carolina tallied his first career hat trick as the Scots defeated Rutgers-Newark, 3-1, in the team's only action last week. Friesen scored goals in the 19th, 56th and 76th minutes of the contest. Also Nominated: Shaun Watt, Greensboro; Nahom Hargwoin, Methodist; Sebastian Wiiala, N.C. Wesleyan; Chris Keller, Piedmont; Nathan Brown, Averett.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
LoganRohde, Greensboro - The junior goalkeeper from Cary, North Carolina posted a shutout as The Pride topped Guilford, 1-0 in overtime, in the team's only action last week. In 104 minutes in net, Rohde stopped all three shots he faced. Also Nominated: Alex Rabone, Methodist; Joe Storer, N.C. Wesleyan; Chris Keller, Piedmont; John Matrisciano, Averett.

Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Shayna Rogers, Piedmont - The Loganville, Georgia senior midfielder tallied one goal and three assists for five points in a 1-1 week for the Lions. In a 3-0 loss to Hanover, Rogers was held scoreless but did manage one shot. In a 5-0 victory over Emory & Henry, Rogers tallied the team's fourth goal of the match in the 57th minute after having assisted on the first three goals of the contest. Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jessica Thatcher, Greensboro - The Stafford, Virginia junior goalkeeper helped The Pride to a 1-1 record last week by collecting 13 saves while allowing two goals in 180 minutes in net. In a 2-1 loss to McDaniel, Thatcher made six saves. In a 2-0 win over Marymount, Thatcher notched the shutout by stopping all seven shots she faced. Volleyball Player of the Week
Kaitlin Norman, Piedmont - The senior right side hitter from Good Hope, Georgia averaged 3.1 kills, a .324 hitting percentage, and 2.4 digs per set as the Lions posted a 2-2 record last week. In a 3-0 win over Sewanee, Norman notched a double-double with 12 kills and ten digs to go along with two blocks and one service ace. In a 3-1, non-conference, win over LaGrange, Norman tallied a double-double of 16 kills with ten digs to go along with one block. In a 3-1 loss to Mt. St. Joseph, Norman tallied ten kills, nine digs and six blocks. Finally, in a 3-0 loss to Birmingham Southern, Norman totaled six kills, four digs, three service aces and two blocks. Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Chloe Carlson, Covenant - The junior defensive specialist from Eaton, Colorado averaged 6.6 digs and 0.9 assists per set as the Scots posted a 4-0 record last week. In a 3-0, non-conference, win over LaGrange, Carlson totaled 16 digs, two assists and one kill. In a 3-2 win over Birmingham Southern, Carlson posted 38 digs, four assists and two service aces. In a 3-0 win over Mt. St. Joseph, Carlson tallied 19 digs and three assists. Finally, in a 3-0 win over Sewanee, Carlson contributed 19 digs, four assists, three service aces and one kill. Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Graham Massot, Covenant - The sophomore from Rochester, Minnesota placed first at the Covenant College Mountaintop Invitational as he completed the 5K course in a time of 17:42, helping the Scots to a first place team finish. Also Nominated: Cody Parker, Piedmont; Sean Hagstrom, Maryville.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Beth Burgess, Covenant - The senior from Nicholasville, Kentucky placed first out of 44 runners at the Covenant College Mountaintop Invitational last week. Burgess completed the two mile course in a collegiate personal-best time of 13:06, helping the Scots to a first place team finish. Also Nominated: Emily Guillaume, Maryville; Allie Gallagher, Meredith; Sophia Stone, Mary Baldwin; Carrie Ruis, Piedmont.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Julius Oskarsson, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman forward from Reykjavik, Iceland helped the Bishops to a 2-0 record last week with one goal and two assists for four points. In a 7-0 win over Cairn, Oskarsson scored the match's first, and eventual game-winning goal, just 24 seconds into the contest then assisted on the next goal four minutes later. In a 3-0 win over Bridgewater, Oskarsson assisted on the first, and eventual game-winning goal, in the 60th minute. Also Nominated: Alex Rabone, Methodist; Shawn Williams, Piedmont; Martin Karemalm, Averett.

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Shelby Clark, Huntingdon -The Navarre, Florida freshman midfielder helped the Hawks to a 1-1 record last week by scoring three goals. In a 1-0 loss to Warren Wilson, Clark was held scoreless but did manage two shots. In a 10-0 win over Johnson University, Clark tallied her first career hat trick with three scores. Also Nominated: Tori Gillett, Piedmont; Rachel Taylor, Maryville; Hannah Tolson, N.C. Wesleyan.

Hannah Shields, Averett - The freshman outside hitter from Keeling, Virginia averaged 5.1 kills and 2.4 digs per set as the Cougars posted a 2-2 record last week. In a 3-0 loss to Central (Iowa), Shields recorded a double-double of 16 kills and ten digs with one service ace. In a 3-1 win over Emory & Henry, Shields notched a double-double of 23 kills and 12 digs with two service aces, one assist and one block. In a 3-1 victory over Guilford, Shields totaled 23 kills, seven digs, one assist and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-2 loss to Randolph, Shields posted a double-double of 20 kills and ten digs to go along with two service aces, one assist and one block. Eliot Kaufmann, Covenant - The freshman from New York, New York placed third at the Covenant College Mountaintop Invitational as he completed the 5K course in a time of 17:52, helping the Scots to a first place team finish. Also Nominated: AJ Trotter, Maryville.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Margaret Fitch, Covenant - The freshman from San Antonio, Texas placed fourth out of 44 runners at the Covenant College Mountaintop Invitational last week. Fitch completed the two mile course in a time of 13:54, helping the Scots to a first place team finish. Also Nominated: Chandler Chastain, Maryville; Mary Kate Morgan, Meredith; Sara Caldwell, Mary Baldwin.
