Lady Hawks pick up first conference win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Five different players scored to lead the Huntingdon women's soccer team in a 5-2 win over Mary Baldwin College on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks (2-5, 1-1 USA South) led 2-1 at halftime and put the game away with three goals in the second half.

"I'm delighted with our first conference win," Huntingdon head coach Robert Milner said. "Back-to-back games are tough and our girls showed great character and persistence to put in two hard shifts this weekend. We scored some great team goals and individual goals today. Overall, the girls did very well this weekend."

Shelby Clark and Samantha Ingram each had a goal and an assist for Huntingdon. Kira Bohlke, Clara Tapplin and Kahli Clements each scored one goal and Abi Olmeda and Kelley Everett each had an assist.

Mary Baldwin (2-4, 0-2 USA South) scored in the first three minutes of the game before Huntingdon answered with a goal from Bohlke in the 16th minute and a goal from Clark in the 22nd minute. Ingram had the first assist and Olmeda had the second.

In the second half, Ingram scored on an assist from Clark in the 51st minute and Tapplin scored in the 60th minute. Clements closed the scoring on an assist from Everett in the 79th minute.

Starting keeper Katie Bonner recorded two saves and two goals allowed in 78:39. Brittany Houseman closed out the game at keeper but did not face a shot on goal.

Huntingdon returns to conference play on Friday at Ferrum.
