Lady Hawks open season with shutout victory

MARION, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 win over Judson College on Thursday night.

The win marks the first season-opening victory for the Lady Hawks since beating Atlanta Christian 2-0 on Sept. 2, 2009.

"We are very excited and happy with the win," head coach Emily Barber said. "The girls came out strong and played excellent soccer. This is a special group of girls with tons of potential and it's going to be a fun season."

Madi Critcher scored the game's first goal in the 16th minute. Critcher finished with five shots, including two shots on goal.

Junior Kira Bohlke scored the next two goals for Huntingdon in the 21st minute and 29th minute. Camryn Carter had the assist on Bohlke's first goal and Shelby Clark had the assist on the second.

Clara Tapplin finished the scoring for the night with a goal on a free kick.

The Lady Hawks outshot the Eagles 17-2. Carter finished with a team-high three shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Leah Leach recorded saves on both of Judson's shots.

Huntingdon will host rival Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Samford Stadium.
