Huntingdon names Jordan as new women’s soccer coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West and athletic director Mike Turk officially announced Cliff Jordan as the new head women's soccer coach on Tuesday.

Jordan served as the assistant women's soccer coach last season and helped lead the Lady Hawks to the quarterfinals of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

"Huntingdon women's soccer is poised for great success under Coach Jordan's leadership," West said. "He inherits an exceptional group of student-athletes who are difference makers for Huntingdon on and off the field.  I appreciate the energy and positive spirit Coach Jordan has already brought to our campus in his service to our athletic program."

Jordan replaces Matt Gill, who recently took a position as a Division I assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

"I would like to thank President West and Coach Mike Turk for this opportunity. Coach Gill worked to establish a new standard for the women's soccer program and I want to build on that foundation and continue to raise the expectations for our program," Jordan said. "I look forward to focusing on the overall player experience and helping to build on the academic, athletic and social pillars that make the next four years an exciting journey for any soccer player here at Huntingdon."

This will be Jordan's first head coaching position. Beginning as a student-assistant at the University of South Florida, Jordan has been an assistant coach at the Division III and Division I level since 2012.

"We are extremely excited about the direction of our women's soccer program, and we are certain that Coach Jordan gives us the best opportunity to continue the positive momentum that has been created in the last few years," Turk said. "His overall approach to mentoring our student-athletes, as well as his knowledge of the game, make him the obvious choice to lead our program."  

Before coming to Huntingdon, Jordan spent one season with the Knox College women's soccer program. Serving as the first assistant and goalkeeper coach in 2017, Jordan helped Knox post a 14-6-2 record that included 13 shutouts. The Prairie Fire won the Midwest Conference Tournament and advanced to the Division III national tournament.

The Knox team produced two All-Region selections, the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, seven all-conference selections and 22 academic all-conference performers.

In 2016, Jordan was the second assistant coach for the Alabama State University women's soccer program. The Hornets won 11 games, captured the program's first conference championship and advanced to the Division I national tournament. Jordan's goalkeepers earned five conference Goalkeeper of the Week awards that season.

Before ASU, Jordan was the first assistant and goalkeeper coach for the Lincoln College men's soccer program. The Lynx advanced to the Region 24 Tournament quarterfinals in 2015.

A 2013 graduate from South Florida, Jordan began his coaching career with the Bulls. In his two seasons as a student-assistant, the women's soccer team advanced to the Big East Conference tournament semifinals in 2012 and the American Athletic Conference tournament semifinals in 2013.
