Huntingdon’s Baldwin and Clark earn Freshman of the Year honors

DECATUR, Ga. – Huntingdon freshmen tennis players Zac Baldwin and Taylor Clark were each named conference Freshman of the Year by the Great South Athletic Conference.

With the release of the GSAC All-Conference awards, both the Huntingdon men's and women's tennis teams are well represented. A total of 10 Huntingdon tennis players were recognized with awards.

Baldwin was named the men's Freshman of the Year and teamed with Sean Jackson to earn All-Conference at No. 1 doubles. Baldwin was also a Sportsmanship Award winner.

Baldwin finished the regular season with a 3-3 conference record at No. 1 singles. Baldwin and Jackson were 7-1 against GSAC doubles competition.

"He's definitely the best freshman in the conference," Huntingdon men's tennis coach Charlie Lane said. "He played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and he's only gotten better as the season has gone on. He's got a couple of little things to work on, but he's going to be tough for opponents to handle the next few seasons."

The women's Freshman of the Year, Clark posted a 7-1 conference record at No. 1 singles. Her lone loss was against Agnes Scott junior, and three-time GSAC Player of the Year, Rachel Storz. Clark was also named All-Conference at No. 1 singles.

"I am blessed with the opportunity to even be able to receive this award," Clark said. "I am thankful to my school and my teammates for encouraging me to do my best and continue to fight. I could have never come this far without the support of my team and my family."

Joining Clark on the women's All-Conference team are teammates Katie Scott (No. 2 singles), Hannah Still (No. 3 singles), Christian Vick (No. 5 singles) and Arielle Barraca (No. 6 singles). Clark and Still were named to the All-Freshman team and Scott and Vick made the All-Academic team. Vick also received the Sportsmanship Award.

On the men's side, Tyler Creamer (No. 2 singles), Jackson (No. 3 singles) and Larry Pritchett (No. 5 singles) earned All-Conference. Lee Howell joined Baldwin on the All-Freshman team and Creamer and Pritchett were both named to the All-Academic team.
