Lady Hawks advance to GSAC tennis finals for 7th straight season
CLEMMONS, N.C. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team breezed through the Great South Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Saturday with a 5-0 win over Salem.
The Lady Hawks (18-3) won all three doubles matches and won two singles matches to end the match. In tournament play, once a team reaches five points, the remaining matches end unfinished.
Huntingdon will play Agnes Scott in the tournament championship on Sunday at 11 a.m. Central. Agnes Scott advanced with a 5-2 win over Spelman.
This is the seventh straight season Huntingdon has reached the tournament championship match and the sixth straight season Huntingdon and Agnes Scott have played in the finals. The Lady Hawks won the GSAC title in 2007 and 2008. Agnes Scott has won the last four GSAC tournament titles. Huntingdon won the first two meetings with the Scotties this season.
On Saturday, Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead after the teams of Britni Thibodeau-Hannah Still (No. 1), Katie Scott-Micaela White (No. 2) and Taylor Clark-Rory Wilson (No. 3) each won their doubles matches 8-0. The Lady Hawks finished the match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 singles (Clark) and No. 4 singles (White).
