Lady Hawks fall in USA South tennis tournament
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team fell behind early and lost to Piedmont 5-4 in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
Piedmont (8-10) took all three doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead at the start of singles. Huntingdon (11-4) rallied to win four of the first five singles matches and tie the match 4-4 before Piedmont clinched the victory with a three-set win.
Caroline McBroom won Huntingdon's first match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. Trailing 4-1, Tara-Beth Hall (No. 5), Hannah Still (No. 1) and Sarah Warren (No. 2) won the next three singles matches. Hall won 6-4, 6-1, Still won 7-5, 6-2 and Warren won 7-6 (9-7), 6-4.
Still ends her Huntingdon career with a 62-19 singles record, 54-27 doubles record and 116-46 overall record. During the NCAA era, she is tied for first in the Lady Hawks' record book for doubles victories and is second in singles victories and total victories.
