Lady Hawks fly by Point University

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team defeated Point University 7-2 to earn its first win of the season.

The Lady Hawks (1-2) started the day with two doubles wins. Dusty Catala and Zoya Robinson teamed up in the No. 2 spot and took an 8-4 win while Caroline McBroom and Heather Tabor won 8-2 at No. 3.

In singles play, Huntingdon took five of six matches. Robinson (No. 3) and Mariah Bastos (No. 4) each won after their opponents retired to give the Lady Hawks a 4-1 lead.

Tabor (No. 5) took a 6-2, 6-0 win to clinch the match for Huntingdon and McBroom won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Catala won at No. 1 singles in three sets. The freshman fell 1-6 but responded with a 7-6 (7-0) win and took the tie-breaker 10-6.

Josie Waddell closed the match for Huntingdon with a three-set loss in the No. 2 spot.  Waddell won her first set 7-5 but fell 6-7 (9-11) and lost the tie-breaker 5-10.

Huntingdon travels to Wesleyan for a USA South matchup on Saturday. Match time is set for an 11 a.m. start.

No. 6: Caroline McBroom (HC) def. Victoria White (PU) 6-0, 6-0

No. 1: Padilla-Larck (PU) def. Bastos-Waddell (HC) 8-5

No. 2: Catala-Robinson (HC) def. Navarro-Belloni (PU) 8-4

No. 3: McBroom-Tabor (HC) def. Cohen-Ashley Lane (PU) 8-2
