Women’s tennis powers past Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon women's tennis remained unbeaten in USA South Athletic Conference play after beating Salem 9-0 on Saturday.
The Lady Hawks pushed their win streak to five games and hold a 9-3 record for the season. Huntingdon is currently tied with Covenant for the top spot of the USA South West Division with a 4-0 conference record. Salem falls to 5-6 and 0-2 in the conference.
Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead after cruising through doubles play. No. 1 doubles team of Dusty Catala and Mariah Bastos won 8-1 while Heather Tabor and Clayton Waring partnered at No. 2 and won 8-0.
Josie Waddell and Caroline McBroom teamed up at No. 3 and won 8-0.
The Lady Hawks kept the same pace and rolled through singles play. Catala (No. 1) won 6-0, 6-1 and Waddell (No. 2) took a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Bastos (No. 3) won 6-0, 6-2, Tabor (No. 4) won 6-0, 6-0, McBroom (No. 5) won 6-1, 6-0 and Waring (No. 6) won 6-0, 6-0.
Sunday's match against Maryville has been postponed due to weather. The Lady Hawks travel to Orlando, Fla. on Monday to begin their Spring Break tournament against Webber International at 4 p.m.
